Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

This is an enchanting novel. Simply delicious!

The story of the Waverley family, a magical, whimsical family. They are the talk of their small town in North Carolina.

Clare Waverly runs a successful catering business where she specializes in edible flowers with magic properties.

Her aunt, an  elderly lady named Evanelle, has the gift of giving people things that they need (even though she or they often don't know why they need it). Evanelle befriends a middle aged love sick gay man named Fred who becomes her boarder and best friend..

Claire's sister,Sydney, who left town as soon as she was 18, returns to their family home where Claire lives. She a small daughter in tow named Bay. She and her daughter have run from Sydney's abusive husband and while estranged from the Waverly family for years, has nowhere else to go.

This novel has lit all: love stories, an eccentric family, humor, recipes, southern snobs, and centers of the importance of family.

This is a charming, magical novel. I didn't want it to ever end, and was so super happy to find out that there was a sequel that continued the story of these magical sisters. It was just as good... more on that one later.

This was the perfect novel to read during a pandemic. Comforting and calming, like sinking into a warm bubble bath with a cup of tea.
